Yazīd ibn Hārūn said: Abū al-Muʿallā al-Jazarī narrated to us, from Maymūn ibn Mihrān, from Ibn ʿUmar, that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said to the members of the consultative council, “Would you permit me to choose on your behalf and then remove myself from consideration?” ʿAlī replied, “Yes—I am the first to agree, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘You are the trustworthy one among the dwellers of heaven and the trustworthy one among the inhabitants of earth.’ (1)”
Al-Shāshī recorded this report in his Musnad (2). Abū al-Muʿallā (3) is weak.
Mujālid reported from al-Shaʿbī that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf led the Muslims in pilgrimage in the year 13 AH.

No one will take charge of this matter after ʿUmar without the people reproaching him.” (4) Abū ʿUways ʿAbd Allāh corroborated this from al-Zuhrī.
Ibn Saʿd transmitted—from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Uwaysī, who narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar, from Umm Bakr, from her father al-Miswar—that: “When ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf assumed responsibility for the shūrā…”
