and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, whereupon he said: “Hold fast, Ḥirāʾ! For upon you is only a Prophet, or a man of unwavering truthfulness, or a martyr.” (1)
Saʿīd added that he too was with them.
Jarīr, Hushaym, Abū al-Aḥwaṣ and al-Abbār likewise narrated it from Ḥuṣayn.
The four Sunan compilers recorded it through the chain of Shuʿbah, as did several others.
It was also transmitted by Ibn Idrīs and Wakīʿ, from Sufyān, from Manṣūr, from Hilāl ibn Yasāf.
Abū Dāwūd said:
“It was likewise narrated by al-Ashjaʿī, from Sufyān, from Manṣūr, who said: from Hilāl (2), from Ibn Ḥayyān, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ẓālim, from Saʿīd. Qāsim al-Jarmī corroborated him, reporting it from Sufyān.”
al-Tirmidhī declared the report sound; it has also come through Sufyān, from Manṣūr and Ḥuṣayn, from Hilāl, from Saʿīd himself.
Abū Qilābah al-Raqāshī related: ʿUmar ibn Ayyūb told us, Muḥammad ibn Maʿn al-Ghifārī told us, Mujamiʿ ibn Yaʿqūb told us, from his father, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mujamiʿ, that ʿUmar said to Umm Kulthūm bint ʿUqbah, the wife of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf:
“Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to you, ‘Marry the leader of the Muslims, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf’?”
She replied, “Yes.” (3)
