As for al-Aʿmash, he narrated it from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (1). In this chapter there is also the report of Zuhayr ibn Muʿāwiyah, from Ḥumayd, from Anas (2).
Abū Ismāʿīl al-Muʾaddib transmitted—through Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from al-Shaʿbī, from Ibn Abī Awfā—who said:
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf complained about Khālid to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet said, “O Khālid! Do not harm a man who fought at Badr. Even if you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, you would still not match his deeds.”
Khālid replied, “They speak against me, so I answer them back.”
The Prophet ﷺ then said, “Do not hurt Khālid, for he is one of Allah’s swords—Allah has unleashed him against the disbelievers.” (3)
No one narrated this from al-Muʾaddib except al-Rabīʿ ibn Thaʿlab (4), though a similar report was transmitted by Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim from al-Ḥasan in mursal form.
Shuʿbah reported: Ḥuṣayn informed us, “I heard Hilāl ibn Yasāf relate from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ẓālim al-Māzinī, from Saʿīd ibn Zayd:
That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on Ḥirāʾ, and with him were Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, Ṭalḥah, al-Zubayr, Saʿd, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf,
