hadiths.
Altogether, the Musnad of Baqiyy contains sixty-five hadiths narrated from him.
His pre-Islamic name was ʿAbdu ʿAmr; some say it was ʿAbdu l-Kaʿbah, but the Prophet ﷺ renamed him ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. (1)
Among the Companions who also reported from him are: Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, al-Miswar ibn Makhramah, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿah.
He accompanied ʿUmar to al-Jābiyah (2) where he commanded the right flank, and during the Sargh deployment he was over the left.
Muḥammad ibn Ḥāzim ibn Ḥāmid and Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Faḍl told us, saying:
“Abū l-Qāsim ibn Ṣaṣrā informed us; Abū l-Qāsim ibn al-Ban al-Asadī likewise informed us. (ḥ)
Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Sulamī and Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ṣūrī also told us, saying:
‘Abū l-Qāsim al-Ḥusayn ibn Hibat Allāh al-Taghlibī informed us; Abū l-Qāsim ibn al-Ban and Naṣr ibn Aḥmad al-Sūsī likewise informed us, saying:
“ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, the jurist, related to us; Abū Manṣūr Muḥammad and Abū ʿAbd Allāh Aḥmad likewise related to us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Sahl ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to us in Balad (3) during Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of the year 427 AH, saying:
‘Abū l-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Aḥmad, the Imām, reported to us; ʿAlī ibn Ḥarb al-Ṭāʾī reported to us; Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah reported to us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, who heard Bajālah say:
“I used to serve as the scribe for Juzʾ ibn Muʿāwiyah, the paternal uncle of al-Aḥnaf ibn Qays. One year before his death, ʿUmar sent us a letter instructing: ‘Execute every sorcerer, male or female, and separate…’”’”’
