Abū Saʿīd Sunqur ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Halabī informed us; ʿAbd al-Laṭīf ibn Yūsuf informed us; ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq al-Yūsufī informed us; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad informed us; ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad the Qurʾān-reciter informed us; ʿAbd al-Bāqī ibn Qāniʿ narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn Muslim narrated to us; Abū al-Walīd narrated to us (ḥ).
Bishr also narrated to us, and ʿAmr ibn Ḥakkām narrated to us; they both said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Jāmiʿ ibn Shaddād, from ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Allah, from his father, who said:
“I asked my father, ‘Why do you not transmit from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as Ibn Masʿūd does?’ He replied, ‘From the day I embraced Islam I never left him, yet I heard him say only this: “Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.”’”
This narration was also transmitted by Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Ṭaḥḥān, from Bayān ibn Bishr (1), from Wabara, from ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Allah with similar wording.
The chain through Shuʿbah was recorded by al-Bukhārī, Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, and al-Qazwīnī.
Isḥāq ibn Yaḥyā reported, on the authority of Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥa, who said: “ʿAlī, al-Zubayr, Ṭalḥa, and Saʿd were all of the same year”—meaning they were born in the same year.
Al-Madāʾinī likewise said: “Ṭalḥa, al-Zubayr, and ʿAlī were peers in age.”
Yatīm (2) ʿUrwah said: “Al-Zubayr emigrated when he was eighteen years old. His uncle used to hang him up and smoke beneath him while he kept saying, ‘I will never return to disbelief, ever.’” (3)
