And in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, on the authority of Abū Hurayrah, it is related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on (Mount) Ḥirāʾ together with Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, Ṭalḥah, and al-Zubayr when the rock beneath them quivered. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Be still! For there is upon you no one but a prophet, a man of utmost truthfulness, or a martyr.” (1)
Suwayd ibn Saʿīd reported: Ṣāliḥ ibn Mūsā narrated to us, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Isḥāq, from ʿĀʾishah bint Ṭalḥah, from ʿĀʾishah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever would like to look at a man walking upon the earth who has already fulfilled his covenant, let him look at Ṭalḥah.” (2)
Al-Tirmidhī said: Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us; Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Naḍr ibn Manṣūr narrated to us; ʿUqbah ibn ʿAlqamah al-Yashkurī narrated to us: I heard ʿAlī on the Day of the Camel say, “I heard with my own ears (3) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Ṭalḥah and al-Zubayr are my two neighbors in Paradise.’” (4)
Ibn Zaydan al-Bajalī and Abū Bakr al-Jārūdī transmitted it in the same manner from al-Ashajj, whereas Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī diverged, relating it as: from Naḍr, from his father, from ʿUqbah.
(1) Reported by Muslim, no. 2417, in the section “Virtues,” and by al-Tirmidhi, no. 3698, in al-Manaqib, chapter: “The Merits of Uthman.”
(2) The chain is weak because of the unreliability of Salih ibn Musa. Ibn Main said, “He is worthless; his hadith is not to be recorded.” Al-Bukhari judged his reports “rejected.” He was likewise declared weak by al-Nasai, Abu Hatim, al-Jawzajani, Ibn Adi, and Ibn Hibban; al-Nasai even called him “abandoned” in one narration. The hadith is also found in Ibn Sad, 3/1/155. Al-Haythami cites it in Majma al-Zawaid, 9/148, attributing it to Abu Yala and to al-Tabarani in al-Awsat, and remarks: “Its chain contains Salih ibn Musa, who is abandoned.” It also appears in al-Matalib al-Aliya, no. 4014, where al-Hafiz likewise ascribes it to Abu Yala.
(3) The printed edition has accidentally omitted the word fi (“in”).
(4) The chain is weak because of Abu Abd al-Rahman Nadr ibn Mansur and his shaykh Uqba ibn Alqama. Al-Tirmidhi also recorded it, no. 3741, in al-Manaqib, chapter: “The Merits of Talha,” commenting, “A gharib report; we know it only through this chain.” Al-Hakim, 3/364, declared it authentic, but al-Dhahabi rejected his ruling. The report also appears in Usd al-Ghabah, 3/87, where the name Nadr has twice been misprinted as “Nasr.”
