wants to look upon a martyr still walking on his own feet, let him look at Talha ibn ʿUbayd Allah.¹
Al-Abraqūhī told me; Ibn Abī al-Jūd informed us; Ibn al-Talābah informed us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Anmāṭī informed us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Mukhlis narrated to us; al-Baghawī narrated to us; Dāwūd ibn Rushayd² narrated to us; Makkī narrated to us; and al-Salt [reported the same].
And in the Jāmiʿ of Abū ʿĪsā [al-Tirmidhī], with a sound chain, it is related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the Day of Uhud: “Talha has guaranteed it.³”
Ibn Abī Khālid reported from Qays, who said, “I saw the hand of Talha—the one with which he shielded the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Uhud—paralyzed.”
Al-Bukhārī recorded this.⁴
(1) The chain is extremely weak, for al-Salt b. Dinar is classed as “abandoned” (matruk) in Ibn Hajar’s Taqrib; the report appears in Musnad al-Tayalisi, no. 1793.
Ibn Majah (no. 125) transmits it through Wakiʿ → al-Salt b. Dinar → Abu Nadrah → Jabir; al-Tirmidhi (no. 3740) records it through Salih b. Musa al-Talhi → al-Salt b. Dinar → Abu Nadrah → Jabir.
Salih b. Musa is likewise abandoned, just like al-Salt.
Al-Tirmidhi (no. 3742), Abu Yaʿla (Musnad, fol. 45/1) and al-Diyaʾ al-Maqdisi in al-Mukhtara 1/278 transmit—through Talha b. Yahya → Musa and ʿIsa, the two sons of Talha → their father Talha—the story that some Companions said to an ignorant Bedouin: “Ask him (the Prophet) who is the one about whom the verse says ‘fulfilled his vow.’” Out of awe they dared not ask themselves. The Bedouin asked; the Prophet turned away. He asked again; the Prophet turned away. Then I entered the mosque wearing green clothes. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me, he said: “Where is the questioner about the one who fulfilled his vow?” The Bedouin replied, “I, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “This man is among those who fulfilled their vow.” Al-Tirmidhi graded the report fair (hasan), and that judgement is sound. A mursal corroboration is found in Ibn Saʿd, 3/1/156.

أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى شَهِيْدٍ يَمْشِي عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى طَلْحَةَ بنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ (١)) .
أَخْبَرَنِيْهُ الأَبَرْقُوْهِيُّ، أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الجُوْدِ، أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ الطلاَبَةِ، أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ العَزِيْزِ الأَنْمَاطِيُّ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ المُخَلِّصُ، حَدَّثَنَا البَغَوِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بنُ رُشَيْدٍ (٢) ، حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيٌّ، حَدَّثَنَا الصَّلْتُ.
وَفِي (جَامِعِ أَبِي عِيْسَى) بِإِسْنَادٍ حَسَنٍ:
أَنَّ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ: (أَوجب طَلْحَةُ (٣)) .
قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ: عَنْ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ يَدَ طَلْحَةَ الَّتِي وَقَى بِهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ شَلاَّءَ.
أَخْرَجَهُ: البُخَارِيُّ (٤) .
(١) إسناده ضعيف جدا لان الصلت بن دينار متروك كما في " التقريب " وهو في " مسند الطيالسي " (١٧٩٣) .
وأخرجه ابن ماجه (١٢٥) من طريق: وكيع، عن الصلت بن دينار، عن أبي نضرة، عن جابر ... وأخرجه الترمذي (٣٧٤٠) من طريق: صالح بن موسى الطلحي، عن الصلت بن دينار، عن أبي نضرة، عن جابر.
وصالح بن موسى متروك كالصلت.
وأخرجه الترمذي (٣٧٤٢) ، وأبو يعلى في " مسنده " ورقة ٤٥ / ١، والضياء المقدسي في " المختارة ١ / ٢٧٨ من طريق طلحة بن يحيى، عن موسى وعيسى ابني طلحة عن أبيهما طلحة: أن أصحاب رسول الله، ﷺ، قالوا لاعرابي جاهل: سله عمن قضى نحبه من هو؟ وكانوا لا يجترئون على مسألته، يوقرونه ويهابونه.
فسأل الاعرابي، فأعرض عنه ثم سأله، فأعرض عنه.
ثم إني طلعت من باب المسجد، وعلي ثياب خضر، فلما رآني رسول الله ﷺ، قال: أين السائل عمن قضى نحبه؟ قال: أنا يا رسول الله، قال: هذا ممن قضى نحبه " وحسنه الترمذي.
وهو كما قال.
وله شاهد مرسل عند ابن سعد ٣ / ١ / ١٥٦.
