The twenty-third volume of Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ has now been completed. It is the work of the Shaykh, the Imām, the learned and practicing scholar, the authoritative and brilliant critic, master of many disciplines, and historian of Islam, Shams al-Dīn Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān al-Dhahabī—may Allah extend his life.

This is the first copy to be transcribed from the author’s own autograph manuscript, and it has been collated as carefully as circumstances allowed.

Its transcription was finished on the night when two nights had passed of the month of Ṣafar, in the year 743 AH. All praise belongs to Allah alone, and His blessings be upon Muhammad and his family.
