Most biographers spell his nisba with the un-dotted dal—Badraya, a village in the Wasit district—whereas al-Dhahabi here and in Tarikh al-Islam writes it with the dotted dhal. Both spellings appear in al-Mushtabih and Tabsir al-Muntabih; being a non-Arabic toponym, either form is admissible.
(2) Al-Husaini, al-Yunini, al-Dhahabi (Tarikh al-Islam) and Ibn Shakir state that he was born at the end of the month of Muharram.
