He held the office of Friday preacher in his village for a time, and it was there that he died. Abū Shāmah (1) said: “He was buried in his village; he was a pious man, occupied with ḥadīth until his death.” He told me that he was on the verge of adolescence when King Nūr al-Dīn circumcised his son, and that he attended the princes’ games in the parade ground together with the boys of his village. It is also said that he was born at the beginning of Muḥarram in the year 568 AH—Allah knows best—for he wrote this in his own hand as well. He passed away on the eighth of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, in the year 655 AH.
