He was born in Muharram of the year seventy-three (1) AH. He attended only the recitation of the ḥadith al-awwaliyya (2) with al-Silafī and thus was the last of that shaykh’s students. Manṣūr ibn Salīm even compiled for him a mashyakha (3).
Those who transmitted from him include ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAwf al-Zuhri; Sharaf Muḥammad and Wajīh ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, the two sons of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Shuqayrī; Fakhr Muḥammad and Jalāl Yaḥyā, the two sons of Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Safāqsī; the ḥadith scholar Ḥāfiẓ Sharaf al-Dīn al-Tūnī; and a number of others.
