ʿAlqamah; Saʿd ibn al-Ḥārith ibn al-Ṣummah al-Anṣārī; Jundub ibn Zuhayr al-Ghāmidī; and Abū Laylā al-Anṣārī.
Those who fell fighting on Muʿāwiyah’s side were: Dhu’l-Kilāʿ; Hushab Dhu Ḍulaim; Hābis ibn Saʿd al-Ṭāʾī, the judge of Ḥimṣ; ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥaḍramī; ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb al-ʿAdawī; ʿUrwah ibn Dāwūd; and Kurayb ibn al-Ṣabāḥ al-Ḥimyarī, one of the champions—he killed a number of men that day, after which ʿAlī met him in single combat and slew him.
Nasr ibn Muzāḥim al-Kūfī, the Rāfiḍī, narrated: ʿUmar ibn Saʿd told us, from al-Ḥārith ibn Ḥuṣayrah, that the son of Dhu’l-Kilāʿ sent to al-Ashʿath ibn Qays saying, “Dhu’l-Kilāʿ has been struck down and lies in the left wing; will you allow us to bury him?” Al-Ashʿath said to the messenger, “Greet him for me and say: I fear the Commander of the Faithful may suspect me. Seek permission instead from Saʿīd ibn Qays al-Hamdānī—he is on the right wing.” The envoy then went to Muʿāwiyah and informed him. Muʿāwiyah replied, “What can I do? They have already barred the Syrians from entering ʿAlī’s camp, lest they corrupt its soldiers.” He then said to his companions, “My joy at the death of Dhu’l-Kilāʿ is greater than it would be at the conquest of Egypt itself, for Dhu’l-Kilāʿ often opposed me in matters I commanded.” The son of Dhu’l-Kilāʿ accordingly went to Saʿīd ibn Qays, requested leave for his father’s burial, and Saʿīd granted it. They carried the body out on a mule; it had already swollen.
Companions who took part in Ṣiffīn on Muʿāwiyah’s side included: ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ al-Sahmī and his son ʿAbd Allah; Faḍālah ibn ʿUbayd al-Anṣārī; Maslamah ibn Mukhallad; al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr; Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥudayj al-Kindī; Abū Ghādiya al-Juhanī, the killer of ʿAmmār; Ḥabīb ibn Maslamah al-Fihrī; Abū al-Aʿwar al-Sulamī; and Busr ibn Arṭāʾah al-ʿĀmirī.
