He was also granted authorization by Abū al-Fatḥ ibn al-Baṭṭī and a number of other scholars. He recited the Qur’an according to the various readings and taught it for many years. He was upright, devout, distinguished, perpetually cheerful, and his chains of transmission were notably elevated.

Those who transmitted from him include Ibn al-Ḥulwāniyyah, al-Dimyāṭī, Majd al-Dīn al-ʿUqaylī, Jamāl al-Dīn al-Sharīshī, ʿIzz al-Dīn al-Fārūthī, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Qazzāz, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Muqayyar, Tāj al-Dīn al-Gharāfī, ʿAfīf al-Dīn ibn al-Dawālībī, and others.

Ibn al-Najjār said, “He copied with his own hand many sizeable works, instructed a great number of people, and I wrote a small amount from him, although there was some weakness in it.”

Al-Dimyāṭī stated, “He passed away on the seventeenth of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, 648 AH, and his funeral was widely attended.”

I (the author) add: The only person to receive his authorization was Zaynab bint al-Kamāl, who narrated from him on several occasions (Juzʾ al-Ḥaffār), (Mashyakhat Shahdah), the second (al-Maḥāmilīyāt), (Juzʾ Ḥanbal), (Amālī al-Daqīqī), (Juzʾ Ibn ʿIlm), (Qaṣr al-Amal), (al-Shukr), (al-Qanāʿa), the (Muwaṭṭaʾ) of al-Qaʿnabī, the (Muwaṭṭaʾ) of Suwayd, and other works.

His father, Shaykh Maḥmūd al-Ḍarīr (“the Blind”), was a righteous Qur’an reciter from the Bāb al-Azaj quarter. He received many narrations from Abū al-Waqt and Ibn Nāṣir. Ibn al-Najjār narrated from him and said that he died in 603 AH.
