He studied under ʿAbd al-Qawī ibn al-Jabbāb, al-Fakhr al-Fārisī, Abū Ṭālib ibn Ḥadīd, and a number of others. He travelled widely, attended hadith circles in Damascus, and wrote a great deal. His companion Abū Muḥammad al-Dimyāṭī transmitted reports from him. He died in Dhū al-Qaʿda of the year 643 AH ⦗1⦘; had he lived longer, he would have ranked among the leading scholars.
137 – al-Muntajib Muntajab al-Dīn ibn Abī al-ʿIzz ibn Rashīd al-Hamadhānī
The shaykh of Qur’an reciters, Muntajab al-Dīn ibn Abī al-ʿIzz ibn Rashīd al-Hamadhānī, a long-time resident of Damascus and the head teacher of recitation at the Zanjīliyya school.
He produced a valuable commentary on the Shāṭibiyya, an excellent gloss on al-Mufaṣṣal, and compiled a full grammatical analysis of the Qur’an. He narrated from Ibn Ṭabrazadh and al-Kindī, and he himself recited the Qur’an to Abū al-Jūd. In turn, al-Ṣāʾin al-Wāsiṭī—who later settled in Konya—and our teacher al-Naẓẓām al-Tabrīzī recited to him.
(1) Al-Hafiz al-Husayni states in Sila al-Takmila that the shaykh died on 27 Dhu al-Qaʿda, a date also adopted by al-Dhahabi in Tarikh al-Islam.

Note: in Dhayl al-Rawdatayn, al-ʿIbar, Tadhkirat al-Huffaz, Bughyat al-Wuʿat and Shadharat al-Dhahab his name is mistakenly written al-Muntakhab (with kha); the correct form given here is confirmed by the manuscript sources Sila al-Takmila, Tarikh al-Islam, al-Siyar, and by the printed Kifayat al-Nihaya, which follows the proper alphabetical sequence.
