He died in Rabīʿ II (1), in the year 641 AH, at the age of eighty-four.

He is the benefactor who endowed the Imād teaching circle reserved for the Hanbalīs.
The judge Shams al-Dīn enjoyed great prestige and was keenly versed in legal rulings—may Allah have mercy on him.
60 – Ibn Ẓafar, Abū Ṭāhir Ismāʿīl ibn Ẓafar ibn Aḥmad al-Mundhirī *
The shaykh, the imām, the itinerant ḥadith scholar, the pious worshipper: Abū Ṭāhir Ismāʿīl ibn Ẓafar ibn Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Mufarraj ibn Manṣūr ibn Thaʿlab ibn ʿUnaybah—derived from ʿinab (“grape”)—al-Mundhirī (2), al-Maqdisī, al-Nābulusī, later al-Dimashqī, the Hanbalī.
He was born in Damascus in 574 AH.

٦٠ - ابْنُ ظَفَرٍ أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ إِسْمَاعِيْلُ بنُ ظَفَرِ بنِ أَحْمَدَ المُنْذِرِيُّ *
الشَّيْخُ، الإِمَامُ، المُحَدِّثُ الجَوَّالُ، الصَّالِحُ العَابِدُ، أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ إِسْمَاعِيْلُ بنُ ظَفَرِ بنِ أَحْمَدَ بنِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ بنِ مُفَرَّجِ بنِ مَنْصُوْرِ بنِ ثَعْلَبِ بن عُنَيْبَةَ - مِنَ العِنَبِ - المُنْذِرِيُّ (٢) ، المَقْدِسِيُّ، النَّابُلُسِيُّ، ثُمَّ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، الحَنْبَلِيُّ.
وُلِدَ: بِدِمَشْقَ، فِي سَنَةِ أَرْبَعٍ وَسَبْعِيْنَ وَخَمْسِ مائَةٍ.
