ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Baghdādi, better known as al-Māristānī, a Sufi and the caretaker of the Manṣūr Mosque.
He was born in 545 AH.
He could have attended the auditions of Abū Bakr ibn al-Zāghūnī and Abū al-Waqt al-Sijzī, but audition is a provision granted by Allah!
He did hear from Abū al-Maʿālī ibn al-Laḥḥās, Abū ʿAlī al-Raḥabī, Muḥammad ibn Asʿad Ḥafadah al-ʿAṭṭār al-ʿAṭṭārī, ʿUmar ibn Bunaymān the grocer, Khadījah bint al-Nuhrawānī, and a number of others.
He was devout, upright, and long-lived.
Among those who narrated from him were Ibn al-Ḥulwāniyya, ʿIzz al-Dīn al-Fārūthī, Ibn Balbān, Muḥammad ibn al-Dabbāb, Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Sharīshī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Saʿādāt, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Gharʿāfī, and others; likewise the Ḥanbalī judge by written authorisation, Ibn Saʿd ⦗1⦘, ʿĪsā al-Muṭʿim, Abū al-ʿAbbās Ibn al-Shihnah, and a number of additional transmitters.
His auditions are sound, and he himself was a righteous man.
He died in Dhu al-Ḥijjah ⦗2⦘, 639 AH.
