Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

and from ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn ʿAskar, Abū al-Ṭāhir ibn ʿAwf, the judge Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥaḍramī, Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar al-Ghāfiqī, Abū Yaḥyā al-Yasaʿ ibn Ḥazm, and a number of others.

Groups of scholars from al-Andalus, Isfahan, and Hamadhan granted him licences to transmit. He led the prayers in the Masjid al-Nakhla and taught Qur’anic recitation there for a time; he also delivered hadith lessons in the frontier region, in Egypt, along the coastal towns, and in Damascus. For many of his transmissions he possessed autograph master copies to which he would refer.

Those who reported from him include Ibn al-Najjār, Ibn Nuqṭa, Ibn al-Majd, al-Kamāl ibn al-Dukhmayṣī, Ibn al-Ḥulwāniyya, Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Yūnīnī, Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Manbijī, al-ʿIzz ibn al-ʿImād, Abū ʿAlī ibn al-Khallāl, Abū al-Maḥāsin ibn al-Khirqī, Naṣr Allah ibn ʿAyyāsh, Aḥmad ibn Muʾmin, Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Dhahabī, the Ḥanbalī judge, Hadiyya bint ʿAskar, Zaynab bint Shukr, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jamāʿa al-Rubaʿī, Saʿd al-Dīn ibn Saʿd, and Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Dāʾim.

In the field of Qur’an readings, his students included Shaykh ʿAlī al-Dahhān, ʿAbd al-Naṣīr al-Maryūṭī, and others.

Al-Mundhirī said: “He taught recitation, and many people benefited from him. A summons was sent for him to attend, so he arrived bringing with him a sizeable collection of his audition certificates. He stayed in Cairo for a while, then travelled to Damascus, where he narrated copiously.” ⦗1⦘

I (al-Dhahabī) add: He remained in Damascus for nine months; the traditionist Ibn al-Jawharī had brought him there and fulfilled his obligations toward him.

Ibn Nuqṭa said:
