Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

I add: he held the judgeship in his own right, though for a long stretch he had to share it with other colleagues. When the two men titled “Shams”—Ibn Saniyy al-Dawlah and al-Khuwayyī—then assumed the office on their own, the deputyship was offered to him but he refused. Both of them were dismissed in 629 AH and replaced by al-ʿImād ibn al-Ḥarastānī; thereafter al-ʿImād was deposed and Ibn Saniyy al-Dawlah was reinstated.

Abū Naṣr first lectured at the ʿImād al-Kātib Madrasa, then left it, and later taught at the Grand Shāmiyyah.

May Allah have mercy on him: he was a distinguished leader—decisive in his rulings, free of favoritism, calm and dignified, handsome in appearance, his face radiant. He devoted most of his time to spreading knowledge, transmitting hadith, and teaching.

He studied law under al-Qutb al-Naysābūrī, Abū Saʿd ibn Abī ʿAṣrūn, and others. Notable, upright figures emerged from his descendants.

He passed away on 2 Jumada al-Ākhirah 635 AH.

His son, Tāj al-Dīn Abū al-Maʿālī Aḥmad, died in 642 AH.

He also heard hadith from al-Faḍl ibn al-Bānyāsī and ʿAbd al-Razzāq.

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad, Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muʾmin, ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim, ʿAbd al-Munʿim ibn Zayn al-Umanaaʾ, and Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Mizzī told us, saying:

“The Qadi Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Hibat Allah the jurist, Ibrāhīm ibn Aḥmad al-Muʿaddil, Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Shāfiʿī, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Aḥmad ibn Muʾmin, and Sitt al-Fakhr bint al-Shīrāzī informed us, saying:

Karīmah bint ʿAbd al-Wahhāb informed us, and Abū ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥallāl (1) and Khadījah bint Yūsuf informed us, saying:

‘Mukram ibn Abī…’"}
