Among those who narrated from him were al-Ḍiyāʾ, Ibn al-Najjār, Shaykh ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Jaysh, al-Kamāl ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Fuwayrah, and others.
By way of written authorisation, he was also cited by the two qāḍīs Shihāb al-Dīn al-Khuwayyi and Taqī al-Dīn al-Ḥanbalī; Abū al-Faḍl Ibn ʿAsākir; Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Yūnīnī; al-ʿImād Ibn al-Tabbāl; Ibrāhīm Ibn al-Ḥubūbī; Fāṭimah bint Sulaymān; Shaykh ʿAlī ibn Hārūn; Muḥammad ibn Musharraf; Ibrāhīm ibn Abī al-Ḥasan al-Mukharrimī; ʿIzziyyah bint Ghanāʾim al-Kafrabatanānīyah; and many others besides.
Ibn al-Najjār relates that he heard Kitāb al-Muḥtaḍirīn, Kitāb al-Riqqa, Kitāb al-Mawt, Kitāb al-Tahajjud, and Kitāb Ḥilm Muʿāwiyah, all by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, as well as Kitāb al-Īmān by Ibn Manda.
I have read, in Abū al-Wafāʾ’s own handwriting: “Among the works I heard is Kitāb Maʿrifat al-Ṣaḥābah by my grandfather, the Imām; I heard it from Abū al-Khayr in the year fifty-six.”
I say: most of his auditions fall in the 550s AH (1), for he wrote, “My birth was in the year 552.”
He died a martyr in 632 AH, and his honorific was Jamāl al-Dīn.
Ibn al-Najjār adds: His father had him listen extensively to Abū al-Khayr al-Bāghbān, al-Rustamī, Masʿūd, and others.
