214 – al-ʿUbādī, Abū al-Faḍl ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ibrāhīm *
The shaykh of the Ḥanafīs, the eminent scholar, Jamāl al-Dīn, Abū al-Faḍl ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Hārūn ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Maḥbūb ibn al-Walīd ibn ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit al-Anṣārī—known as al-ʿUbādī, al-Maḥbūbī, al-Bukhārī, the Ḥanafī.
Full mastery of the school ultimately rested with him, and he was marked by dignity and devoted worship.
He studied fiqh under the distinguished ʿImād al-Dīn ʿUmar ibn Bakr al-Zaranjarī, who had learned from his father and from Ibn Māzah; both traced their chain back to Shams al-Aʾimmah al-Sarakhsī, to Shams al-Aʾimmah al-Ḥalwāʾī, to al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Khaḍir al-Nasafī, to Abū Bakr al-Kumārī, to ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb al-Ustādh, to Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥafṣ al-Bukhārī, to his father, to Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan, and finally to Imām Abū Ḥanīfah.
Indeed, he also trained with Fakhr al-Dīn Ḥasan ibn Manṣūr Qāḍī Khān, and heard hadith from him as well as from Abū al-Muẓaffar Ibn al-Samʿānī.
