191 – Ibn ʿĪsā, ʿĪsā ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Sharīshī*
The senior Qur’an reciter of Alexandria—discussed at length in Tabaqāt al-Qurrāʾ—the imam Abū al-Qāsim ʿĪsā, son of the hadith scholar ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿĪsā ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Sharīshī.
He was born in the frontier port city in the early 550s AH.
He heard a great deal from al-Silafī and from others.
He recited before a number of teachers, mastering both the mass-transmitted canonical readings and the anomalous ones, and he authored works on qirāʾāt. Nevertheless, he is under suspicion and not deemed reliable; his audition from al-Silafī is sound, but in the field of Qur’anic readings he makes many claims.
Hasan, the grandson of Ziyādah, transmitted to us from him.
He died in 629 AH (1).
192 – al-Ḥasan ibn al-Zabīdī, Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn al-Mubārak**
The shaykh, imam, jurist, and devout worshiper: Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn al-Mubārak ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn al-Zabīdī, a Baghdadi adherent of the Ḥanafī school and the brother of Sirāj al-Dīn.
