In Rajab (1) of that year the Commander of the Faithful al-Ẓāhir passed away; his caliphate had lasted nine and a half months, and he had lived fifty-two years. They then swore allegiance to his son al-Mustanṣir billah, Abū Jaʿfar.
152 – ʿĀmir ibn Abī al-Walīd Hishām, Abū al-Qāsim al-Azdī *
The master of belles-lettres, Abū al-Qāsim al-Azdī al-Qurṭubī.
He heard hadith from his father, from Ibn Bashkuwāl, and from Abū Muḥammad ibn Mughīth.
A skilful scribe, man of letters, and prolific poet, he practiced devotion, clung to righteousness, and many narrated from him.
Abū Muḥammad ibn Hārūn al-Ṭāʾī read to him al-Ḥarīrī’s Maqāmāt—indeed, portions of his own Maqāmāt—kept close company with him, trained under him, and received from him his Maqṣūra; in his maqāmāt he showed originality and excellence.
He died—so says al-Abbār—in the year 623.
153 – Dāwūd ibn Maʿmar ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn al-Fāk̲hir al-Qurashī **
The shaykh, imam, hadith transmitter, and centenarian, Abū al-Futūḥ al-Qurashī, al-ʿAbshamī, from Iṣfahān.
He was born in the month of Ramadan, in the year 34.
