are you not pleased that your standing with me should be like Aaron’s with Moses—save that there will be no prophet after me?” Al-Tirmidhī recorded this report and graded it “sound though singular in its chain.”
I also heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say on the day of Khaybar, “Tomorrow I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and whom Allah and His Messenger love.” He handed it to ʿAlī, and through him Allah granted victory.
When the verse was revealed, “Then come, let us summon our sons and your sons …” (Āl ʿImrān 3:61), the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, called for ʿAlī, Fāṭimah, al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn and declared, “O Allah, these are my household.” Bukayr [ibn Mismar] is a narrator upon whom Muslim relied.
Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir al-Ḥizāmī said: Ibrāhīm ibn Muhājir ibn Mismār narrated to us, from his father, from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd, from his father, who said: “By Allah, I testify that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to ʿAlī at Ghadīr Khumm, while grasping his upper arms, ‘People, who is your patron?’ They answered, ‘Allah and His Messenger.’ He said, ‘Whoever’s patron I am, ʿAlī is his patron. O Allah, befriend those who befriend him and oppose those who oppose him…’” Al-Nasāʾī remarked that this Ibrāhīm is weak.
It is related from Anas that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to his daughter Fāṭimah, “I have married you to the one who is the most forbearing among them, the first of them to submit, and the most knowledgeable of them.” A similar wording is reported by Jābir al-Juʿfī—who is discarded—from Ibn Buraydah, from his father.
Al-Ajlah al-Kindī narrated, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Buraydah, from his father, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “O Buraydah, do not speak ill of ʿAlī, for he is part of me and I am part of him, and he is your patron …”
