from it—that marginal addition (1)—and he died in Ramadan (2), in the year 621 AH.
I say: His father was among those who transmitted from Ibn al-Ḥusayn, and his cousin (3) was the vizier Jalal al-Din ibn Yunus.
117 – Ibn Idris, ‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Rawha’i *
The shaykh, model, and eminent ascetic, Abū al-Hasan ‘Ali ibn Abī Bakr Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Idris al-Rawha’i, al-Ba‘qubi, a companion of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir.
He received hadith from him and from Shaykh ‘Ali ibn al-Hīti.
Those who narrated from him include Shaykh Yaḥyā ibn al-Ṣarṣarī—who kept his company, honoured and revered him greatly, and said that he had never met anyone like him—al-Kamāl ‘Ali ibn Waḍḍāḥ, al-Badr Sunqur Shāh al-Nāṣirī, Shaykh ‘Ali al-Khabbāz, and Abū al-Faḍl Muhammad ibn Abī al-Faraj ibn al-Dabbāb (4).
(1) The remainder of Ibn Nuqta’s remark: “… never at all, and no one ever read it to him; what impelled him was sheer avidity and a passion for collecting reports. We ask Allah for protection.”
(2) What Ibn Nuqta actually wrote is: “He passed away on Monday, the fifteenth of Ramadan …”.
(3) This is my own insertion; the statement makes no sense without it. I cannot tell whether the slip comes from al-Dhahabi or from the copyist, for Yunus, the father of the vizier Ubayd Allah known as Jalal, is his (the subject’s) uncle, making the vizier his cousin. The vizier is Ubayd Allah b. Yunus b. Ahmad b. Ubayd Allah al-Baghdadi.

(4) Their forefather was called al-Dabbab (“the Crawler”) because he used to walk with extreme deliberation and calm. Al-Dhahabi relates this in Taʾrikh al-Islam on the authority of his teacher Abu al-Alaʾ al-Fardhi, and al-Mundhiri records it in the Takmila (3 / entry 1902).
