116 – al-Bayyiʿ, Abū Bakr Zayd ibn Yaḥyā ibn Aḥmad al-Azajī *
The shaykh, Abū Bakr Zayd ibn Abī al-Muʿammar Yaḥyā ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿUbayd Allah al-Azajī, known as al-Bayyiʿ.
He was born around the year 547 AH (1).
He heard ḥadith from Abū al-Waqt ʿAbd al-Awwal, Abū Bakr ibn al-Zāghūnī, Hibat Allah ibn al-Shiblī, Aḥmad ibn Qafrajala, and Abū al-Fatḥ ibn al-Baṭṭī.
Those who transmitted from him include al-Barzalī, Ibn al-Dubaythī, al-Ḍiyāʾ, Abū al-Maʿālī al-Abarqūhī, and others.
I have read in the handwriting of the ḥāfiẓ al-Ḍiyāʾ that his birth was in 541 AH.
Ibn Nuqṭah (2) said: “He heard the Ṣaḥīḥ, the Sunan of al-Dārimī, and the Muntakhab of ʿAbd (3) from Abū al-Waqt, and his audition is both plentiful and sound.”
He then added: “His name is appended in the copy belonging to Muḥammad ibn al-Sarī al-Tammār, in the tier of ʿAlī ibn al-Zāghūnī, and in the Juzʾ Luwayn on the margin; I do not know that he ever narrated anything from it…"
