—Biʾr Arīs, Biʾr Arīs!”
Ibn al-Musayyib said: “Afterwards a man from Banū Khaṭmah died. They covered him with a cloth, then heard a rattling in his chest; suddenly he spoke, declaring, ‘The man of Banū al-Ḥārith ibn al-Khazraj has spoken the truth, the very truth.’
Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr remarked: “This is the one who spoke after death—there is no dispute about it. He had fallen unconscious, his soul was taken up, then it was returned to him and he uttered those words concerning Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān; immediately afterwards he died. Trustworthy scholars of Syria have related this from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr.”
Salman ibn Rabīʿah al-Bāhilī—it is said that he was a Companion. He heard hadith from ʿUmar, and narrations from him are transmitted by Abū Wāʾil, al-Ṣuby ibn Maʿbad, and ʿAmr ibn Maymūn. A valiant, courageous, upright worshipper, he was appointed by ʿUmar as judge of Kūfa. During ʿUthmān’s caliphate he commanded the campaign against Armenia and was killed at Balanjar; others say it was his brother ʿAbd al-Raḥmān who fell there. It is also reported that when the Turks suffer drought they seek rain at Salman’s grave—he is buried among them and his bones have been placed in a casket. Muslim included his narration.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Suraqah ibn al-Muʿtamar al-ʿAdawī
He was a Companion and a transmitter of hadith. He fought at Uḥud and elsewhere; al-Zuhrī held that he had also been at Badr. Among those who narrated from him are ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, ʿUqbah ibn Wisāj, and others. He likewise reported from Abū ʿUbaydah, the brother of ʿAmr.
Some, however, maintain that the person who narrated from Abū ʿUbaydah—and from whom ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq transmitted the report about the Antichrist—was an eminent Azdite from Damascus. This was the opinion of al-Ghallābī and others.
