Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Like his brother, he also received transmission from Ibn al-Zāghūnī, Abū al-Waqt, Hibat Allāh al-Shiblī, and those who came after them. He copied a great many books, rendered service to visiting scholars, and was well-versed in the transmitted texts and in the biographies of the shaykhs; he had discernment, though he was not among the most exacting specialists.
Among those who narrated from him were al-Dubaythī and al-Yaldānī.
He died in Jumādā al-Ākhira of the year 597 AH, still a man in his prime.
The elder brother passed away as an old shaykh in Ramaḍān 615 AH.
