Al-Qūṣī said: Abū Nizār recited to us a poem of his own:
Within Lihyā’s house (1) are gardens richly adorned,
as though they had been stolen from the Abode of Riḍwān.
Its rivulets let molten silver flow
over pebbles of pearl blended with red gold.
Birds warble upon the branches in melodious song,
like players upon flutes and reed pipes.
And after all this, the tongue of the scene proclaims:
“How delightful is life when it rests in security and faith!”
Among those who received authorization from Abū Nizār were Aḥmad ibn Salāmah and al-Fakhr ʿAlī.

He was born around the year thirty (2).
He reported that he had recited to Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd.
He travelled and completed the Seven Readings with Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Hudhayl, from whom he heard a great deal, as well as from Ibn al-Niʿma and Ibn Saʿāda.
Those who recited to him included Muḥammad ibn Jawbar, al-ʿAlam Abū al-Qāsim (3), Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Mushilīyūn, and several others.
He passed away in Ṣafar, in the year 609 AH.
