- Ibn al-Ikhwah, Hisham ibn ʿAbd al-Rahim ibn Ahmad al-Baghdadi
The shaykh, scholar, musnid, and man nick-named al-Muʾayyad, Abū Muslim Hisham (1), son of the muhaddith ʿAbd al-Rahim ibn Ahmad ibn al-Ikhwah al-Baghdadi, who later resided in Isfahan and was judged reliable.
He was born in 527 AH (2).
His father, Abū al-Faḍl, introduced him to the study of hadith at an early age, having him attend the recitals of Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Dharr al-Ṣāliḥani, Zāhir al-Shahhami, Saʿīd ibn Abī al-Rajāʾ, al-Ḥusayn al-Khallāl, and Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿduyah.
He later heard from Ghānim ibn Khālid and several others, and, while in Hamadhān, from Abū Bakr Hibat Allah ibn al-Faraj and Naṣr ibn al-Muẓaffar.
In Baghdad he studied with the qāḍī al-Urmawī and Hibat Allah the accountant.
Those who transmitted from him include Ibn Nuqṭah, al-Ḍiyāʾ, Ibn Khalīl, al-Taqī Ibn al-ʿIzz, and others; and, by ijāza, Ibn Abī ʿUmar, Ibn al-Darajī, al-Kamāl ʿAbd al-Rahim, al-Fakhr ʿAlī, and several more.
He lived seventy-nine years.
Among the works he heard are the Musnad of Abū Yaʿlā, the Musnad of al-ʿAdanī, and the Musnad of al-Ruyānī (3); most of these, however, were attended sittings, and in his own transmission he was deemed trustworthy.
