I said: It is reported that the ḥadīth master Abū al-Qāsim swore he would not speak to his son until the History was copied, so the son copied it. When Bahāʾ al-Dīn produced his book al-Jihād, Sultan Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn listened to the entire work from him in the year 576 AH.
He (Bahāʾ al-Dīn) said, “At the beginning and the end of the book I prayed for the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). Allah answered that prayer—praise be to Him—and Jerusalem was taken on the twenty-sixth of Rajab in the year 583 AH. I was present at its capture.”
The ḥadīth master Bahāʾ al-Dīn died on the ninth of Ṣafar in 600 AH; his funeral was widely attended.

A poet and philologist—affectedly pedantic, coarse, foolish, and of little benefit.
He authored several literary works, a mixture of the worthless and the worthwhile.
