Abū al-Muẓaffar al-Sibt (1) said: Ibn Nujayyah amassed enormous wealth and lived in extravagant luxury. In his residence there were twenty chamber slave-girls, each worth a thousand dinars or more (2). Meals were prepared for him such as are not prepared even for kings, and caliphs and rulers bestowed upon him vast sums of money.
He added: Yet for all that, he died in poverty; one of his companions had to supply his shroud.
Al-Mundhirī (3) stated: He died on the seventh of Ramaḍān in the year 599 AH, and his wife Fāṭimah passed away a year later (4).
