Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Al-Būsīrī died on the second of Ṣafar in the year 598 AH.

  1. Ibn Muwaqqāʾ, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Makkī al-Anṣārī
The shaykh, jurist, long-lived scholar, and leading transmitter of Alexandria: Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Makkī ibn Ḥamzah ibn Muwaqqāʾ ibn ʿAlī al-Anṣārī, al-Saʿdī, al-Thaghrī, a Mālikī and a merchant, commonly known as Ibn ʿAllās.

He was born in 505 AH.

He studied under Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Rāzī, reading his “Collection of Teachers,” and al-Rāzī granted him an ijāzah; he was the last of al-Rāzī’s pupils.

Among those who received ḥadith from him were ʿAlī ibn al-Mufaḍḍal; al-Zayn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Naḥwī; Abū al-Fath Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Lakhmī; Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Naḥḥās and his brother Manṣūr; Jaʿfar ibn Tammām; al-Ḥusayn and ʿAbd Allah, the sons of Aḥmad ibn Khulayد al-Kinānī; al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUthmān al-Muḥtasib; Hibat Allah ibn Ruwaynah; ʿUthmān ibn Hibat Allah ibn ʿAwf; and others, the last of them being Ibn ʿAwf.

…there is no one who can withhold what Allah grants. In Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr’s work al-Iʿtisam, under the chapter “What is disliked regarding excessive questioning and probing into matters that do not concern one,” and in Sahih Muslim (no. 593) in the Book of Mosques, chapter “The recommendation to make remembrance after the prayer,” as well as in Abu Dawud (no. 1505) and al-Nasaʾi 3/70, it is related from Muʿawiya that the Prophet ﷺ used to say after every obligatory prayer: “La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulk wa lahu al-hamd, wa-huwa ʿala kulli shayʾin qadir. Allahumma la maniʿa lima aʿtayt, wa-la muʿtiya lima manaʿt, wa-la yanfaʿu dha al-jaddi minka al-jadd.” The wording “yuhyi wa yumit (He gives life and causes death)” appears only in the report of Abu Ayyub recorded by Ahmad 5/420, but there it pertains to the supplication said in the morning and evening; its chain of transmission is sound. (*) Al-Mundhiri gives him a biography in the Takmila, no. 722; al-Dhahabi in Tarikh al-Islam, fol. 118 (Paris ms. 1582) and in al-ʿIbar 4/307; Ibn Taghribirdi in al-Nujum 6/183; and al-Suyuti in Husn al-Muhadara 4/307.
