The sultan died one month later.
Abū Muḥammad ibn Ḥawṭ Allah and Sahl ibn Mālik narrated from him, yet it is not fitting that anyone transmit hadith on his authority (1).
165 – Ibn Mallāḥ al-Shaṭṭ, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad al-Qaṣrī*
A righteous shaykh and musnid: Abū al-Faraj ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Hibat Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā al-Qaṣrī, the gatekeeper, better known as Ibn Mallāḥ al-Shaṭṭ.
He resided in the palace of ʿAlī ibn ʿĪsā al-Hāshimī.
He received a large corpus of hadith from Abū al-Qāsim ibn al-Ḥuṣayn, Abū Ghālib ibn al-Bannāʾ, Abū al-Barakāt Yaḥyā ibn Ḥubaysh al-Fāriqī, Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn al-Zāghūnī, and many others.
Ibn al-Najjār said, “I wrote down a great deal from him; he was a righteous shaykh of fine character, devoted to transmitting hadith, never weary or bored. He served as the gatekeeper of the Umm al-Khalīfah Madrasa (2). I asked him about his birth, and he replied, ‘I remember the caliphate of al-Mustazhir’ (3). Our shaykh passed away in Ṣafar, in the year 597 AH.”
