in Almería from Judge Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq ibn Ghālib ibn ʿAṭiyya al-Muḥāribī, and from several others.
Abū al-Rabīʿ ibn Sālim transmitted from him and said: “He mastered the Kitāb of Sībawayh, studying it thoroughly under Ibn (1) Abī Rukb al-Khashanī. Afterwards he assumed the teaching chair in Murcia for Qurʾān recitation and Arabic, and in grammar he ranked among the foremost imams. In 581 AH I heard from him his transmission of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and other works from Shurayḥ—albeit with a break in the chain—as well as al-Taysīr, al-Kāfī, and Abū Maʿshar’s Talkhīṣ, which he had received from Ibn Thuʿbān on the latter’s authority from Abū Maʿshar.
I add: Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Mughīth granted him an ijāzah.
Ibn Sālim relates: “He died in Murcia on his return from the royal court, on the seventeenth of Jumādā al-Ūlā in 586 AH, and was buried beside Abū al-Qāsim ibn Hubaysh.” He had been born in 513 AH.
