62 – al-Turk Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Iṣfahānī*
A righteous, long-lived shaykh, the foremost musnid of his time: Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Abī Manṣūr Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yanal al-Iṣfahānī, the Sufi, shaykh of the order.
He studied under Abū Muṭīʿ Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Miṣrī, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥamd al-Dūnī, and—while in Baghdad—Abū ʿAlī ibn Nabḥān and Abū Ṭāhir al-Yūsufī.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Mūsā al-Madanī selected narrations from him, and through him the chains of transmission reached their greatest loftiness.
Those who narrated from him include al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAsākir, al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Ḥāzimī, Abū al-Majd al-Qazwīnī, and several others.
In addition, Abū al-Munajjā ibn al-Lattī, al-Rashīd al-ʿIrāqī, and others transmitted from him by written authorization (ijāzah).
He was the last person still alive who had reported from Abū Muṭīʿ and al-Dūnī.
He passed away in Shaʿbān of the year 585 AH (1), being a little over ninety years old.
