—of Shaykh Abū ʿUmar, arrived in Damascus, Abū al-Faḍl went out to greet him with one thousand dinars in his hand. He offered the money to him, but he declined; so he purchased the village of al-Hāmah (1) with it and endowed it for the people of Jerusalem.
He said: When Sultan Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn arrived in the year ’seventy (570 AH), he took Damascus and stayed in the house of al-ʿAqīqī. He then walked to the residence of the judge Kamāl al-Dīn, who became alarmed and hurried out to receive him. The Sultan entered, spoke with him warmly, and said, “Be at ease; the authority is yours and the city is yours.”
When Kamāl al-Dīn passed away, his son Muḥyī al-Dīn—who was in Aleppo at the time—elegised him with a poem whose opening lines are:
Come to the twin slopes of Qāsiyūn and offer greetings
upon a grave aglow with light; invoke mercy.
Convey to him, from a heart weighed down with grief, a salutation
that both my heart and my tongue oblige you to deliver.
I say: He died on the sixth of Muḥarram in the year 572 AH.
15 – His son: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim al-Shahrazūrī *
His son, the Chief Judge Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad, died in 586 AH.
