ʿAṭiyyah narrates on the authority of Abū Saʿīd: “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise his hands in supplication for ʿUthmān.”
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Samurah reported: “ʿUthmān came to the Prophet ﷺ with 1,000 dinars wrapped in his cloak when he was outfitting the Army of Hardship. He poured them into the Prophet’s lap, and the Prophet began turning them over with his hand, saying, ‘Nothing ʿUthmān does after today will ever harm him.’” Aḥmad recorded this in his Musnad, as did others.
In the Musnad of Abū Yaʿlā, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf relates that ʿUthmān equipped the Army of Hardship with 700 uqiyyahs of gold.
Khalīd transmits from al-Ḥasan that ʿUthmān provided 750 camels and 50 horses—referring to the expedition of Tabūk.
Ḥabbah al-ʿUranī reports from ʿAlī that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “May Allah have mercy on ʿUthmān; even the angels feel shy before him.”
Al-Muḥāribī narrates from Abū Masʿūd, from Bishr ibn Bashīr al-Aslamī, from his father: “When the Emigrants first came to Madinah they found its water disagreeable. A man of Banū Ghifār owned a spring called Rūmah from which he sold a single bucketful for a mudd. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, ‘Will you sell it for a spring in Paradise?’ He replied, ‘Messenger of Allah, I have no other spring; I cannot do that.’ News of this reached ʿUthmān, who bought it for 35,000 dirhams, then came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, ‘Will you grant me the same as what you promised…’
