and whoever prefers to read the chain of transmission may do so, and I will then recite the text for him. (1)
I read, in the handwriting of Shaykh al-Ḍiyāʾ: “I heard Imām Muḥammad ibn Abī Saʿīd in Isfahān say:
‘The son of the ḥāfiẓ Abū al-ʿAlāʾ wrote to me from Hamadan asking about Abū al-Khayr ibn Mūsā: “What has been established with you concerning him?” I sent back: “I have a scroll that records criticisms of him and another that records his vindication; and—Allah knows best—the vindication is nearer to the truth.”
He then said: “That is because al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Mūsā spoke against him on account of the ijāzas of Masʿūd al-Thaqafī.”’ (2)
I say: He died in Shawwāl, 568 AH.
357 – al-Ḥājjī Abū Masʿūd ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn ʿAlī ibn Ḥamd*
The imam, traditionist, ḥāfiẓ, and upright authority, Abū Masʿūd ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn Abī al-Wafāʾ ʿAlī ibn Ḥamd ibn ʿĪsā al-Iṣfahānī, known as al-Ḥājjī, the grandson of Shaykh Ghānim al-Barjī.
He heard ḥadith from his grandfather Ghānim; Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥaddād; ʿAbd al-Ghaffār ibn Muḥammad al-Shīrawī—he travelled to him; Abū al-Qāsim ibn al-Ḥuṣayn; Abū al-ʿIzz ibn Kādis; and several others.
Those who narrated from him include al-Samʿānī, Ibn ʿAsākir (3), ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Ruhāwī, and a number of others. By way of authorization alone, Ibn al-Lattī and Karīma al-Zubayriyya also transmitted from him.
