Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

ibn Rāfiʿ al-Ṭūsī, later al-Baghdādī, and widely known as Ibn Tāj al-Qurrāʾ.

His father introduced him to hadith at an early age, so he heard from Mālik ibn Aḥmad al-Bāniyāsī, Yaḥyā ibn Aḥmad al-Sībī, and Abū Bakr al-Ṭuraythīthī.

Those who transmitted from him include the ḥāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Ghanī, Shaykh Muwaffaq al-Dīn, Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān al-Kāshgharī, and others; and, by written licence, al-Rashīd ibn Maslamah.

Shaykh Muwaffaq said, “We heard from him two fascicles that he relates on the authority of al-Bāniyāsī.”

Al-Samʿānī remarked, “He was a Sufi who served the shaykhs and adopted their character. I looked for him several times but never managed to meet him.” He added, “He is the brother of our shaykh Yaḥyā.”

Ibn Mashqi stated, “He—may Allah have mercy on him—died in Ṣafar of 563 AH.”

I (the author) say: He is the transmitter of Juzʾ al-Bāniyāsī.

Many others also died that year (1), among them: Abū al-Maʿālī ʿUmar ibn Bunaymān—a trustworthy Baghdadi who had heard Thābit ibn Bundār and his contemporaries; Abū al-Muẓaffar Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Kāghadī al-Baghdādī, the narrator of Mashyakhat al-Fasawī; Abū al-Manāqib Ḥaydarah ibn Abī al-Barakāt ʿUmar ibn Ibrāhīm al-Ḥusaynī al-Zaydī, who possessed two sessions from Ṭirād; Abū Ṭāhir al-Khiḍr ibn al-Faḍl al-Ṣaffār al-Iṣfahānī—known as “Rajul,” the sole holder of an ijāzah from ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Mandah; Abū al-Faḍl Shākir ibn ʿAlī al-Aswārī; and Abū al-Ḥasan
