with him a fascicle that he had heard from the Kufan shaykh ʿUmar ibn Ibrāhīm al-Zaydī. He said, “So he took it, copied it, and then heard it from me.”
I add: I have seen that very fascicle in the handwriting of Judge Abū Bakr. As for the niche (ṭāqah), it seems to me that it was the Talḥiyyah (1).
Abū al-Faḍl Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allāh ibn Tāj al-Umānāʾ recited to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad transmitted to us in his book; ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Muḥammad, the ḥāfiẓ, transmitted to us; ʿAbd al-Ghaffār ibn Muḥammad, in person, transmitted to us; Abū Bakr al-Ḥayrī transmitted to us; Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb al-Aṣamm narrated to us; Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us; Sufyān narrated from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, who said:
A man asked, “O Messenger of Allah, when is the Hour?” He replied, “What have you prepared for it?” The man mentioned nothing of great works except that he loved Allah and His Messenger. The Prophet said, “You will be with those you love.” Agreed upon (2).
It has already been noted that the ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Qāsim and his son, the traditionist Bahāʾ al-Dīn, narrated this report from Abū Saʿd, and we too have heard it through a group who received it from another group. They said, “Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī informed us; Makkī ibn ʿAllān informed us.”
We also heard it from ʿĀʾishah bint ʿĪsā, from her grandfather the jurist Abū Muḥammad, from Abū Zurʿah, from Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Kāmakhī, both of whom said: “Judge Abū Bakr al-Ḥayrī informed us …,” and he mentioned it.
The ḥāfiẓ Abū Saʿd died at the beginning of Rabīʿ al-Awwal in the year sixty-two (3).
