of commendable demeanor, and he passed away in Ṣafar of the year 557 AH (1).
In that same year there also died: Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Nāqah (1), the Kufan ḥadīth scholar; Zumurrudh Khātūn, mother of Shams al-Mulūk and patroness of the Khātūniyyah hospice on the citadel (2); Ṣadaqah ibn Wazīr al-Wāsitī, the preacher (3); the preacher ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Maʿarrī (4) in Damascus; Shaykh ʿAdī ibn Musāfir, the ascetic (5); Ilkiyā al-Ṣabbāḥī, the Bāṭinite lord of Alamut (6); and Hibat Allāh al-Shiblī, the cloth-fuller, a disciple of Abū Naṣr al-Zaynabī.
267 – al-Shiblī, Abū al-Muẓaffar Hibat Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad
The shaykh, musnid, last survivor of the senior masters, and the final person to have heard directly from Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Zaynabī: Abū al-Muẓaffar Hibat Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Shiblī al-Baghdādī, the cloth-fuller, the grain-pounder, and the caller to prayer.
(1) Ibn Nuqtah lists him in al-Istidrak, section “Tafih and Naqah”; he is Abu al-Abbas Ahmad b. Yahya b. Naqah al-Misli al-Kufi. Ibn al-Athir treats him in al-Lubab 3/212, under the entry al-Misli—a nisbah derived from Masliyah, a quarter of Kufa where Abu al-Abbas lived—and Ibn Hajar does the same in Tabsir al-Muntabih 4/1365. Further notices are found in al-Safadi’s al-Wafi 8/231 and al-Suyuti’s Bughyat al-Wuʿat 1/395. In the last two works the name “Naqah” is misread as “Naqid,” while the nisbah “al-Misli” appears as “al-Miski” in al-Wafi and “al-Misiki” in Bughyat al-Wuʿat. All these sources state that he died in 559 AH, not 557 AH as the author reports.
(2) A biographical entry is found in al-Ibar 4/162, Mukhtasar Tanbih al-Talib, p. 86, and Shadharat al-Dhahab 4/178.
(3) A notice appears in al-Muntazam 10/204.
(4) See Shadharat al-Dhahab 4/178–179.
(5) His biography has already been given above under no. 233.
(6) Consult al-Kamil 11/288 and al-Lubab 3/234. The nisbah al-Sabbahi derives from al-Hasan b. al-Sabbah, with the letter bāʾ doubled.
