He died in Jumada I, 555 AH, and was buried at the foot of Mount Qasyun.
Some portions of the collection known as the Muḥamiliyyāt have reached me through his chain of transmission.
Ibn al-Najjār said: “Those who narrated from him include Ibn Sukaynah, ʿAbd al-Razzāq, Ibn al-Akhḍar, and Thābit ibn Musharraf—born in Shaʿbān 470 AH and who passed away on the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, 556 AH.”
247 – Ibn al-Ḥubūbī, Ḥamzah ibn ʿAlī ibn Hibat Allah al-Thaʿlabī
The eminent shaykh and musnid, Abū Yaʿlā Ḥamzah ibn ʿAlī ibn Hibat Allah ibn Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Thaʿlabī, a Damascene cloth-merchant known as Ibn al-Ḥubūbī.
He was born in 472 AH.
He heard hadith from Abū al-Qāsim ibn Abī al-ʿAlāʾ, Abū al-Fatḥ Naṣr ibn Ibrāhīm al-Maqdisī, and Sahl ibn Bishr al-Isfaraʾīnī.
His uncle Abū al-Majd Maʿālī ibn al-Ḥubūbī arranged the audition sessions for him.
The ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAsākir said, “There is nothing objectionable about him.” (1)
I say: Those who narrated from him include Ibn ʿAsākir, his son, Abū al-Mawāhib ibn Ṣaṣrā, his brother al-Ḥusayn, ʿAbd al-Khāliq ibn Asad, his son Ghālib, Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, his son Aḥmad ibn Ḥamzah ibn al-Ḥubūbī, Mukram ibn Abī al-Ṣaqr, Abū Naṣr ibn al-Shīrāzī, and Karīmah al-Zubayriyya, who was the last person to transmit from him.
