Maʿbad, together with Ziyād, testified against al-Mughīrah on the charge of fornication; when some of them withheld their testimony, ʿUmar removed al-Mughīrah from the governorship of Basra and entrusted it to Abū Mūsā.
Khalīfah also said: Rayḥān ibn ʿIṣmah related to us—ʿUmar ibn Marzūq narrated from Abū Farqad—who said: “We were with Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī in Ahwāz, and the saddle-cloths of his cavalry were overlaid with brocade.”
In that same year ʿUmar married Umm Kulthūm, the daughter of Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ, and, it is reported, set her dowry at forty thousand dirhams.
Year Eighteen (18 AH):
Ibn Isḥāq states that this year ʿUmar led the people in a prayer for rain; he went out accompanied by al-ʿAbbās and said, “O Allah, we beseech You by the uncle of Your Prophet.”
During the year Abū Mūsā captured Jundaysābūr and Sūs by treaty, after which he returned to Ahwāz.
In the same year Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ dispatched Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Bajali to Hulwān after the victory at Jalūlāʾ, and he took the town by force. Others say that Hāshim ibn ʿUtbah was the one sent; the inhabitants then rebelled and advanced to Nahāwand, so Hāshim marched on Māh, expelled them as far as Azerbaijan, and they finally sued for peace.
Another report holds that within this year Abū Mūsā seized Rāmhormoz and then advanced to Tustar, laying siege to it.
