al-Jabbār ibn ʿUthmān ibn Manṣūr al-Harawī, al-Fāmī, al-Shurūṭī, al-ʿAdl.
He was born in 472 AH. He heard ḥadith from Abū Ismāʿīl al-Anṣārī, Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-ʿUmarī, Najīb ibn Maymūn al-Wāsiṭī, Qāḍī Abū ʿĀmir al-Azdī, and others of their rank.
In his middle years, as far as I can tell, he travelled for the pilgrimage and there received ḥadith from Hibat Allāh ibn ʿAlī al-Bukhārī and Abū al-Qāsim ibn al-Ḥuṣayn.
Among those who narrated from him were Ibn ʿAsākir (1), al-Samʿānī, Abū Rūḥ ʿAbd al-Muʿizz al-Bazzāz, and a group besides them.
Al-Samʿānī said: “He had fine conduct and an excellent way of life, was gentle in manners, gave much in charity and fasted frequently, kept the remembrance of Allah continual, was affectionate and humble. He had expertise in ḥadith and literature, honoured strangers and passed on to them what he had learnt from the shaykhs. He was trustworthy and reliable. I wrote from him in Herat and its environs. He died on the twenty-fifth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in 546 AH (2).”
I say: His laqab was Thiqatu al-Dīn, and he composed a brief Tārīkh (3).
