ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Jaʿfar al-Hamadhānī, known as al-Jawraqānī.
Jawraqān is one of the villages of Hamadhān.
He authored a work entitled al-Mawḍūʿāt (fabricated narrations), presenting each report with his own chains of transmission.
He transmitted ḥadith from Abū Muḥammad al-Dūnī and others after him.
Abū al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzī built his famous compilation al-Mawḍūʿāt upon al-Jawraqānī’s book.
Ibn Shāfiʿ said: “Death overtook him while travelling, and we received news of it in Rajab, 543 AH.”
Ibn al-Najjār remarked: “He wrote, collected, and authored extensively, and he produced an excellent edition of the book al-Mawḍūʿāt. ʿAbd al-Razzāq al-Jīlī narrated it to us from him.”⦗1⦘
I add: he also related from Ibn Ṭāhir al-Maqdisī, Yaḥyā ibn Aḥmad al-Ghaḍāʾirī, Shīrawayh al-Daylamī, Ḥamd ibn Naṣr, ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Bunjīr, Yaḥyā ibn Manda, and Aḥmad ibn ʿAbbād al-Burūjirdī, with the chain descending to ʿAbd al-Khāliq al-Yūsufī.
His book was transmitted on his authority by his nephew Najīb ibn Ghānim al-Ṭayyān in 582 AH.
Ibn Mashshiq stated: “He died on the sixteenth of Rajab, 543 AH.”
