100 – al-Dūmī, Abū al-Faṭḥ Mufliḥ ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad*
The eminent shaykh Abū al-Faṭḥ Mufliḥ ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿAlī al-Dūmī—later called al-Baghdādī—the bookseller and copyist.
Birth: 457 AH.
He heard ḥadith from Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb, Ibn Hazārmard al-Ṣarīfīnī, Abū al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Naqqūr, and ʿAlī ibn al-Busrī.
Those who transmitted from him include Ibn ʿAsākir (1), Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī, ʿUmar ibn Ṭabrazad, Yūsuf ibn al-Mubārak, Abū Muḥammad ibn al-Sāwī, and Turk ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAṭṭār.
Al-Samʿānī said, “I copied a great deal from him. He was a shaykh of acceptable standing. He used to hold gatherings in the Jurists’ Quarter of al-Karkh and wrote petition slips for a fee. I was told that he accumulated a large sum of money and buried it, which his son Munjiḥ later inherited. He was acquisitive. He died on the twelfth of Muḥarram 537 AH.”
I add: His son Munjiḥ (2) ibn Mufliḥ narrated from Ibn al-Baṭir and others; he died sometime after 550 AH (3).
His grandson Muṣliḥ (4) ibn Munjiḥ ibn Mufliḥ heard ḥadith from Hibat Allah ibn al-Ṭabr and others.
