and the vizier ʿAlī ibn Ṭirād al-Zaynabī (1); Abū al-Wafāʾ Ghānim ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥasan al-Julūdī al-Iṣfahānī (2); and the preacher-shaykh Abū al-Futūḥ Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl al-Isfarāyinī (3), the son of the theologian al-Muʿtamid.
ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad and others granted us a general authorization, saying:
“ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Khaṭīb narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ḥabābah narrated to us; Abū al-Qāsim al-Baghawī narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd reported to us; Yazīd ibn Ibrāhīm al-Tustarī reported to us; Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn reported:
Umm ʿAṭiyyah said: ‘One of the daughters of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, and he instructed us to wash her three times, or five, or more than that if we deemed it necessary, and to put lotus leaves and camphor in the final washing (4).’
This ḥadīth is agreed upon as authentic. Al-Nasāʾī transmitted it with a shorter chain, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Shuʿayb ibn al-Layth, from his father, from his grandfather, from Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb, from Mālik ibn Anas, from Ayyūb, from Ibn Sīrīn—thus matching the transmissions of our own teachers.
