Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Shurayḥ. Al-Radhānī (1) transmitted it to us from him, except for the fifth fascicle of the ten-part division.

I add: Those who narrated from him include Abū al-Qāsim Ibn ʿAsākir, Abū Rūḥ ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad al-Harawī, and a number of others.

Ibn Nuqtah said: Yaḥyā ibn ʿAlī al-Māliqī told me that when Abū Jaʿfar ibn Khawlah al-Gharnāṭī returned from India to Herat, he produced for them the remaining portion of the original copy of the Musnad of Abū Yaʿlā, and in it was Abū Rūḥ’s audition from Tamīm.

Yaḥyā continued, “With that volume the Musnad was now complete for him in terms of what he had heard from Tamīm.”

Ibn al-Khallāl informed us; ʿAtīq al-Salmānī informed us; Abū al-Qāsim the ḥāfiẓ informed us; Tamīm al-Jurjānī informed us in Herat, in Shaʿbān of 530 AH … and he cited a hadith.

That is the last information I have about Tamīm, and I do not know when he died (2).

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Salām al-Tamīmī informed us; ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad related to us; Tamīm ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Muʿallim informed us in 429 AH; Abū Saʿd al-Kanjarūdhī informed us in 448 AH; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdān informed us; Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī informed us; Abū al-Rabīʿ al-Zahrānī narrated to us; Fulayḥ, on the authority of—

(1) Pronounced with a short ‑a on the initial ra and on the dotted, light dhal, ending with nun. The nisba goes back to Rudhan, a village in the region of Nasa—also called Riyan, the ya either doubled or light. The person meant is Abu Jaʿfar Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Abi ʿAwn ʿAbd al-Jabbar al-Nasawi (d. 313 AH), whose biography appears in vol. 14, no. 240. In al-Tahbir 1/146 the nisba was mistakenly written “al-Radhani,” inserting an extra alif; this slip led the editor to link the name to Radhan, a village near Baghdad, without identifying its bearer. (2) The author also mentions him at the end of Ibn al-Banna’s entry, no. (3), among those who died in 331 AH.
