He passed away on the twenty-fifth of Ṣafar in the year 533 AH, at the age of ninety.
I say: We heard the Muwattaʾ through his chain, though an old gap remained—specifically the chapters on musāqāt (share-cropping), qirāḍ (silent partnership), and farāʾiḍ (inheritance).
7 – Anūshirwān ibn Khālid, Abū Naṣr al-Qāshānī
The eminent grand vizier, Abū Naṣr al-Qāshānī (2). He served as vizier to the caliph al-Mustarshid (3), and later to Sultan Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad (4).

(2) The nisba al-Qashani is derived from Qashan, a town near Isfahan. Yaqut vocalised it with qaf and dotted shin; al-Samʿani records both dotted and undotted shin; the present author uses the undotted form, followed by Ibn Hajar. In Shadharat al-Dhahab the word was misread as al-Ghasani with ghayn, while Ibn Kathir introduced al-Qayni, from the village of Qayn in the Qashan district, a reading also adopted by Ibn Taghribirdi.
(3) His biography appeared in vol.19, no.325 above.
(4) This is the Seljuk sultan Mahmud b. Muhammad b. Malikshah; see vol.19, no.305. Al-Isfahani (Mukhtasar Tarikh Dawlat Al-Saljuq, p.104) states that Anushirwan served as vizier to his father, Sultan Muhammad—a view followed by Ibn al-Jawzi in al-Muntazam—whereas on p.162 the same author says he served his brother, Sultan Masʿud, which is the opinion of Ibn Taghribirdi in al-Nujum al-Zahira. Muʿjam al-Ansab wa-l-Usar al-Hakima is less complete and omits him from the viziers of Sultan Muhammad (see p.338).
