ʿAlī al-Sijzī—later known as al-Balkhī—the ascetic.
He narrated from Saʿīd al-ʿAyyār, Manṣūr ibn Isḥāq al-Ḥāfiẓ, and Abū ʿAlī al-Wakhshī.
From him one may hear Sunan Abī Dāwūd, and from al-ʿAyyār Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī.
He granted an authorization to Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī (1), and stated that he died in 528 AH.
With Allah’s aid and success, the nineteenth volume of Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ is now complete. The twentieth volume follows, opening with the biography of Hibat Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad al-Wāsiṭī.
(1) Al-Tahbir, 1/561, describes him as “the leading follower of Abu Hanifa in Balkh; he lived to a great age, transmitted numerous reports that others recorded from him, and was an ascetic, chaste, and of exemplary conduct.”
